This session challenges the common assumption that secondary students already possess the social skills needed for success. This session introduces a practical, evidence-informed framework for planning, delivering and supporting social skill instruction in middle and high school settings. The framework includes four steps, which can be applied across a variety of settings (e.g., general education, special education), with a whole class, small group, or individual students. Participants will learn how to identify socially significant skills that complement their academic activities. To support implementation, an example instructional plan and implementation checklist will be provided. Attendees will leave with concrete strategies and tools to move from reacting to behavior to proactively teaching the skills students need to succeed.
