As millennial parents increasingly shape the K–12 education landscape, schools must reconsider how they approach family engagement. This workshop presents findings from a qualitative study exploring millennial parents’ perceptions of parental involvement in elementary education in the JOCO area. Participants will review key themes from the research, including parents’ expectations for transparent communication, consistent access to information, and meaningful opportunities to collaborate with schools. The session will also highlight the most common concerns parents raise and examine how leadership practices influence school-family relationships. This session challenges the common assumption that secondary students already possess the social skills needed for success. This session introduces a practical, evidence-informed framework for planning, delivering and supporting social skill instruction in middle and high school settings. The framework includes four steps, which can be applied across a variety of settings (e.g., general education, special education), with a whole class, small group, or individual students. Participants will learn how to identify socially significant skills that complement their academic activities. To support implementation, an example instructional plan and implementation checklist will be provided.
